Ubuntu Xenial Xerus 16.04 LTS Release Party Update 1.1

For those of you that provided input, thank you. The AZLOCO Xenial Xerus 16.04 LTS release party is now tentatively scheduled for 14 May at 1500 hours. It will be pot luck. While the party is primarily intended as a social event and will occur 24 days after the scheduled release, we will have wifi available to install the new version if you so desire. If you have already installed it, feel free to bring your laptop and show Xenial off to your friends. Details are being ironed out and will be released as they are firmed up.

Ubuntu Xenial Xerus 16.04 LTS Release Party

For those of you that use one of the ten different officially approved and supported versions of Ubuntu, the new Long Term Support (LTS) version Xenial Xerus 16.04 is scheduled to be released 21 April 2016. Like the other LTS releases many of the "flavors" will be supported for 5 years. The release of a new LTS versions means many things to many people but it means PARTY TIME to me.

Measure your Internet Speed

Based on a recent Slashdot post, here's a simple way to measure your Internet speed. The project is on GitHub at https://github.com/sivel/speedtest-cli, and to get the Python-based program, simply do this:

wget -O speedtest-cli https://raw.github.com/sivel/speedtest-cli/master/speedtest_cli.py
chmod +x speedtest-cli
Execute ./speedtest-cli --simple to get your results.
