We can really make this a success with a little advanced planning. We will need extension cords and power strips. Wifi will be in place by the time of the party. I will be accepting ideas and volunteers for presentations; email me at j.scott.gwin@gmail, find me on IRC #ubuntu-us-az scott_ev, or bring up your planned contributions in the weekly meeting. Someone needs to volunteer to make a flyer too. There is a new Lucid Lynx Planning Page at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ArizonaTeam/LucidLynx You are welcome to help plan this event and other Lucid events by adding to the page.

Software Freedom Day needs Volunteers!!

Software Freedom Day is coming up again soon. PLUG and the AZ LoCo will be working together to do something to celebrate this. If you are interested at all in helping with this please let Scott Gwin know by emailing j.scott.gwin@ubuntu.com and/or emailing Dennis Kibbe at denninsk@linuxquestions.net. More info can be found at:
http://softwarefreedomday.org/ . Info may be coming in the near future at the PLUG website: http://plug.phoenix.az.us/.

Software Freedom Day (SFD) is a worldwide celebration of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). Our goal in this celebration is to educate the worldwide public about of the benefits of using high quality FOSS in education, in government, at home, and in business -- in short, everywhere! The non-profit organization Software Freedom International coordinates SFD at a global level, providing support, giveaways and a point of collaboration, but volunteer teams around the world organize the local SFD events to impact their own communities.

Sunday night meeting

The votes are in and the overwhelming response is that we should move the Sunday Night Meeting to 7:00pm MST. According to the emails I've received we should be seeing a rise in the number of participants in our weekly meetings; I hope so. So, starting this week, July 25th, the new meeting time will be 7:00. Put it on your calendars and please come. It should be fun.

The Early-Summer LoCo BBQ at hutchnate's house was a tasty success!

This past Saturday, July 10 we had a get-together at Nate Hutchings house. It was loosely organized at the last minute and it was a tasty good time. In attendance were flakeparadigm and a bud jawee, Hatthew Helmke, lenards, my friend mathewmpp and myself. Though it would have been very nice to see more of the team in attendance we weren't lacking anyhting. We had planty of good conversation and Nate cooked up tasty hot dogs, hamburgers, bratts and topped it off with a wonderfully smoky blueberry crumble desert. Thank you Nate for the tasty eats and your use of wood chips to add to the overall great flavor. Let's hope we can do this again later in the summer or in the fall and get a much larger group together as it was a great experience.

scott_ev goes up for Ubuntu Membership

Hey all,

I am finally scheduled to go in front of the ubuntu Membership Board on Tuesday 6th at 13:00 AZ time in #ubuntu-meeting. It would be great if you would show your support by attending this meeting and showing me your support. You can help my chances of being granted membership on the first try by editing my wiki and adding an endorsement for membership. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/j.scott.gwin This will also show you a little about the process of getting yourself ready to apply for Ubuntu membership yourself.

Alright!! Thank you all for your support. The AZ LoCo was the most represented group in that meeting. Way to go guys. Now we just need to start grooming more of you for Ubuntu membership.

AZ LoCo Now Has a Linikedin Page

I just created a linked in page for the Arizona Ubuntu LoCo team: (http://www.linkedin.com/groups?gid=3014215&trk=myg_ugrp_ovr) in an attempt to make us more visible on the internet and, perhaps, make us easier to find for people needing/wanting our help. If you can think of other places where we can make our presence known, please let us know so we can make use of that info or create an entry for the team and give us the info so we can keep track of it.
